Clayton Park Junior High

Athletic News

Volunteer Coaches – We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers
who are helping to allow school Athletics to happen at Clayton Park. It takes time,
interest, and commitment to step forward and take on the many roles that are needed in
having a team at the junior high level. We have our teachers who take on the roles of
coaches and teacher advisors. This is a great support to our students. The parents, former
students and non-parent coaches who come into our building to take hours out of their
very busy lives to enhance the students’ skills, self esteem, sense of belonging,
friendships, and success academically. With the team of adults and former students that it
takes to offer the programming at our schools our students are served with the greatest
support system available. It is always wonderful to see our former students giving back to
our CPJH community! They are always welcome here! Thank you again to all those who
help contribute to our students.

Cross Country – This team is being led by Mr. Derek Norris. Thank you, Mr. Norris.
The team was small but very strong this year with the Junior Boys and Girls having
strong finishes in their first meet. Although we did not place top 15 to qualify for
provincials the team competed well in the Regionals.

Girls Soccer – The Girls Soccer team was led by two strong coaches – Mrs. Chris Trifos
and Mr. Don Hailstone. Thank you, Chris, for two years of dedicating your time and
expertise to our girls We will be sad to see you move on with Katie to high school. Thank
you, Don, for coaching this year and offering to help coach again next year! Our students
are benefiting from your help and expertise! The Girls Soccer team came first in their
division and lost by one goal in the semi-finals. They played well and had a great season!
Boys Soccer – The Boys Soccer team was led by Ms. Meghan McCarther and coached
by two former grade 11 students- David Shamsuddin-Caiata and Reid Marchand. Thank
you for all your help and experience. The team came third in their division and played
very well. This is the first time in many years that our team won a game in the Tier one
division!  They played well and had a great season!

Touch Football Team – Mr. Mike Wheatley has been tirelessly working with our Touch
Football team giving up after school time since the beginning of the school year. Thank-
you, Mr. Wheatley. The Football team came third in their division and won their game
against Gorsebrook in the quarter finals and will play in the semis on Monday at 4:00
against St. Agnes on the Commons B field. If they win they will advance to the finals at
5:00. Great teamwork, a cohesive group, and sportsmanship are all helping in this team’s
success.

Girls’ Volleyball Team – The girls have been practicing hard since the beginning of the
year. Thanks to a team of dedicated coaches Mrs. Kim Clark and Mrs. Denise Nauss. We
are soon going to begin our season. Good luck, girls. Thank-you for all your hard work
and dedication.

Boys’ Volleyball Team – Thank-you to Ms. Meghan McCarther for taking on the
challenge of coaching the Boys’ Volleyball team. It has been very challenging to have the
boys practice this year due to student’s involvement in Football and Soccer. The boys are
very excited to have Ms. Meghan McCarther and Mr. Derek Norris coach during the
lunch time practices. We have the practice schedule finally set and we should be off to an
exciting start with a promising season.
