Inclement Weather and Delayed Opening

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education takes great care when making the decision to cancel schools and/or busses in the event of severe or inclement weather. Decisions on school closures and/or bus cancellations are posted on the board’s website at www.hrce.ca , on Twitter at www.twitter.com/HRCE_NS, recorded at 902-464-INFO (4636) and communicated to all local radio stations.

By opting in to the HRCE texting feature, you will receive information from your child’s school AND from the HRCE, including school cancellation notifications due to inclement weather. Please see link below for more information.

https://www.hrce.ca/news/2021/11/18/new-process-school-cancellation-noti...

If weather conditions warrant, the HRCE could implement a delayed opening. Delayed openings would be considered when a weather event has concluded but snow clearing or other operations require additional time. Delayed opening may also be considered when the physical building is experiencing an issue such as a power outage or loss of water and additional time is required to prepare the school to open.

If this was to occur, school would be delayed by two hours. In our school, this means school would start at 11:20 am. If school buses are operating, the expectation will be that students are picked up two hours later than their regularly assigned time pending any weather-related delays. Our lunch and dismissal times will remain at their regularly scheduled times.

The weather in Nova Scotia is unpredictable so it’s always a good idea for families to have a back-up plan for child care when school is cancelled. Respect and Kindness at CPJH

Staff have been noticing some areas of respect and expectations that students are not demonstrating and we are hoping to improve with students at CPJH. Staff and students have been reviewing school expectations with students over the past number of days to ensure that everyone is continuing to practice kindness, respect and being caring citizens of Clayton Park Junior High. We ask that students demonstrate respectful behavior and expectations; this makes a school function better which leads to better learning for ALL students. Our academic, physical, and emotional well-being is a shared responsibility. Expectations and norms help us to create a school culture and environment in which all students feel safe, supported, and encouraged to express their thoughts, opinions, values, experiences, and perspectives. Staff at CPJH ask that all students treat our school, staff, fellow students with kindness and respect. Students have responded to the expectations and staff have noticed an increase in a positive learning environment and school culture over the past number of days. Way to go Wild Cats!
