January 16th Update

Good Evening Clayton Park Junior High Families,

Dressing for the Weather

Now that the colder weather is upon us, please remind your child to dress appropriately for the weather. Unless temperatures are very cold, students will be outside during lunch for 25 minutes.

Grade 9 Information – Course Selection @ Halifax West

Dear Future Warrior Parents/Guardians,

Grade 9 Parents/Guardians are invited to attend an information session about Halifax West Grade 10 Programs. A general course registration information session will take place on January 25th in the Bella Rose theatre from 6-7pm. We kindly ask that only parents/guardians attend this session as we are limited in space. Students will have or will be receiving the same presentation from our guidance counsellors in their school the week of January 23rd – 27th.

There will be additional breakout information sessions about the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and the Options and Opportunities (O2) program from 7-8pm. Location of these information sessions will be communicated at the end of the information session.

If you are unable to attend this session, we will be uploading information to our guidance website following the meeting.

We are looking forward to meeting with you on Jan 25th.

Sincerely,

Lee Anne Amaral

Principal

Supervision

Just a friendly reminder that supervision begins at 9am for students. Students should not be on school property before 9am as; supervision is not provided before this time. We have reminded students about this and explained the rationale behind it.

Water Bottles

Students are reminded to bring a water bottle with them as, there is no access to water fountains. We have water bottle refill stations for students to fill their water bottle up throughout the day.

SCENT AWARE

We are a scent aware school as we try to maintain an environment that is healthy for everyone. Students are asked not to wear scented products to school. Many students and staff have severe allergies to “scents” and we want to keep everyone healthy and safe.

Change of Contact Information

If your home address, phone number or email address has changed this school year and you have not yet notified the school please do so as soon as possible. Please email cpjh@hrce.ca or call 902-457-8930 to make the changes in PowerSchool. It is very important that the school has up to date addresses, contact numbers and emails addresses in PowerSchool. This is essential for receiving information from the school and also if we require to contact you. Home addresses must be up to date for safety reasons and transportation.

Cell Phones

Many teachers are having an increase in students using cell phones during classtime. Students are not permitted to be using cell phones during class time unless given permission by the teacher. We have experienced an increase in inappropriate cell phone usage over the past weeks. Issues have included harassment and inappropriate image sharing. It is unacceptable to take photos or videos of anyone at school. This is a serious privacy issue. This has also created a disruption to students learning. If your child has a cell phone this is an important issue to discuss with them. Teachers will email families if they are having issues with cell phones with particular students. We appreciate your support with this.
