Emergency Drills

The safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority for Clayton Park Junior High School and the Halifax Regional Center for Education. We have been implementing a number of measures as part of a comprehensive plan aimed at ensuring our school remains a safe place for our students to learn.

One of the procedures our school will be practicing is a lockdown drill. During a lockdown drill, classroom doors are secured, and the students remain inside the room until instructed by the teacher to resume their activities. All exterior doors are locked, and no one is permitted to enter or leave the building.

Students are kept inside the school and classrooms when circumstances make it safer to stay in the classroom rather than evacuate. Just as we prepare our students to properly respond to a fire drill, they also need to be aware of the proper response during a lockdown drill. These drills should be treated with the same level of importance as fire drills.

Please be assured that the staff at our school will spend time discussing the importance of this procedure with students prior to running a drill. We will also take time after the drill to remind them that it was only a practice and there was no danger. When possible, our Community Liaison Officer may assist us in conducting the lockdown drills just as the Fire Department assists with evacuation drills.

Please take the time to speak with your child about this procedure and reinforce its importance. We practice these drills to ensure our school remains a safe place for teaching and learning.

We will be having a lockdown drill on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023.

We will also be practising other safety drills throughout the year. They will be during the following weeks.

  • April 3rd – Fire Drill
  • May 15th – Fire Drill
  • June 5th – Fire Drill

School Dance

On Thursday February 23rd, 6:30-8pm, we will be hosting a dance at CPJH for the students at our school. The cost of the ticket is 9 dollars and cash only. Please send your child with exact change as we will not be able to make change. Tickets will be pre-sold by teachers during lunch time. Students must purchase their tickets ahead of time and tickets will not be sold at the door or outside of the lunch hour. Tickets will be sold February 13th-22nd and sold until 1:20 pm for grade 8’s and 9’s and until 12:40 pm for grade 7’s.

  • Grade 8 tickets will be sold in your hallway during the second half of lunch.
  • Grade 9 tickets will be sold in the Learning Center during the second half of lunch.
  • Grade 7 tickets will be sold in the modular by the staffroom for the first part of lunch.

There will be no guests or sign-ins for the dance. Only current/registered students who attend Clayton Park will be allowed to purchase tickets and attend the dance.

Please help your child in making arrangements in getting home at the end of the dance and ask that drivers please arrive by 8pm.

There will be no admittance to the dance after 6:50 pm and students are to remain for the entirety of the dance; we will not be dismissing students early (unless previously arranged with Erica Gee, VP of CPJH).

*Students will be waiting in line outside to enter so appropriate dress is recommended.

Our No Scent policy is still in effect during a dance. We expect good behavior from everyone in attendance. The code of conduct applies;this means, appropriate cell phone use (no videos, photo’s, etc), no physical violence, using appropriate language, drug and alcohol use prohibited, being respectful of others and the environment you are in.

There will be a coat room (for all jackets/sweaters and bags) and a canteen so please bring some money with you if you would like to purchase snacks or drinks during the dance. Bags of any kind will not be permitted in the gym (belt bag, purses, etc). No outside food and drinks will be allowed.

If your student has any questions please have them reach out to school administration. We would like to thank our amazing staff for volunteering their time to make this dance a possibility.
