Clayton Park Junior High

The Final Stretch Update

Good evening, Clayton Park Junior High Families,

Water Bottles: Students need to bring water bottles from home. We do not have disposable cups for water and the constant requests have created a lot of interruptions for learning. Students should bring a water bottle (with their name) to school. We have many refill stations around the building. Staying hydrated helps maintain good health.

Band Concert: Thank you to Mr. Huskins and the band students who put on an amazing Band Concert this past month. It was wonderful to have parents, guardians and families back in the school for these types of events.

Grade 9 Info / Orientation at Halifax West:

The following information was received from Halifax West regarding a grade 9 tour. From Halifax West: In Sept. Halifax West is planning to do things a little differently regarding our new grade 10 students. We plan to have an orientation day on Sept. 7 where we take our new students on a tour and provide them with all of the orientation information, they need to have a successful year…this will be in place of an orientation this year.

Track and Field Team

Track and field offers a variety of events which creates opportunities for individuals to explore and surprise themselves. This was the case this year at CPJH. We had over 150 students try out. That’s a third of our school! What an amazing turnout. Thank you. Everyone came with an open mind and gave multiple events a try. It was so nice to see everyone supporting each other and trying to teach each other the events. Getting to see all the smiles that were hidden over the last two years was a special moment. Our team consisted of over 85 student athletes. The first meet was districts. At districts the top eight in each event qualified for regionals. Some events had 70 plus participants from all over the city of Halifax. We had 25 student athletes qualify for regionals. That is impressive. At regionals we had five student athletes qualify for provincials. This means they came top four out of 16 in their respective events versus all of Halifax Regional Centre of Education.

These individuals are heading to Provincials on June 3rd and 4th in Stellarton, Nova Scotia at Pioneer Cole Athletics Field. The event will have an opening ceremony where our students will walk with a CPJH banner handmade by one of our students down the track with all other participants. The event is also live broadcasted by Eastlink over the two days. What an experience that is in store for our five competitors regardless of the result. All should be proud. Our junior girl competitor is Amarachi Ezurike running in the 200m race. Our junior boy competitor is Nathan LeRue running in the 200m race. Our three intermediate boy competitors are Yunshu Zhao running in the 400m race, Jevon Farmer putting the shot put, and Robert Martin in the 100m hurdles.

From all of the coaches and staff at CPJH we thank our student athletes for how hard they have worked. Without them we would not have had a team or the individual success stories that have come from track and field this year.

If you want to follow along, you can find results from the meet on the school sport nova scotia website or find the livestream through Eastlink. Let’s Go Wildcats!

Thank you to Mr. Crawley, Mr. Norris, Ms. Harding and Mr. King for volunteering to coach the track and field team.
